Motivational and Drug-Free ProgramOur assembly program is first and foremost, educational. When you would like us to apply a drug-free or motivational approach to our program, we do and are very successful with it! This is the manner in which we approach this type of program: We believe that the best way to share a drug-free program is to come from a positive approach to living. We do not emphasize the drug culture. We rather, come from the perspective that life, itself, is the greatest high a person can have. Life is an adventure every step of the way. Our assembly program is motivational from beginning to end without stopping for a breath any where along the way. Doug Ruzicka motivates the student by using his uncanny ability to relate to the student and the student's hopes, dreams and energies. Doug holds the interest of the audience continually while always teaching. The student, of course, is very interested in the subject matter, Alaska and dog sledding. Doug uses that interest to teach strength of character, discipline of mind and body. This is how he approaches the subject: Dog sledding on a snow-packed trail in the wilderness of Alaska is no small achievement. Temperatures dip down to -30, -40, or sometimes -50 degrees. This is where the adventure begins. Stars brighten the northern sky and reflect off the snow-packed ground making this dark land a winter wonderland. The night light seems as bright as day with only shadows of the foreboding dangers beyond sight. Slowly, clouds begin to cover the stars and cut off that protective light. Now, the shadows reach out and engulf all. Darkness surrounds the hardy who venture into this wilderness and covers them with a blanket of mystery. Yet, the king of this wilderness land by far is the silence. Silence that overwhelms a man until he feels he becomes a part of it himself. This king of the wilderness inspires him to whisper, for fear of causing offense. This is where a man meets himself. His thoughts, his abilities, his dreams are laid out in front of him as he travels this trail alone with only his dog team for company. Together, they share the thrills and joys of the adventure with him. He is dependent upon their senses. Realizing his own weaknesses as compared to their strengths of sight, smell, sound, and sixth-sense. His life truly belongs to this team. So, begins this man's experience of a life-time. Our assembly program brings this mysterious wonderland to the students with just the right amount of truth and wit. They, too, become a part of the story as they grasp the greatness of the Last Frontier called Alaska. As Doug shares his dream he opens the student's minds. They, too, begin to realize that they can, also, reach their dreams. These dreams have no room for abuses of any kind. Dreams are like gravity. They are unforgiving when we jump off the high plateau where we're standing. Yet, so useful in keeping our feet planted firmly on solid ground.
